Welcome to another week of spreadable content for your brain, The Nexialist
Welcome, folks! This week (and the next few), I’m quite busy with amazing and exciting projects, which means my Nexialist posts might be a bit reduced, but still made with the same love and care. A lot has been happening in the world, so this is a moment to decompress and spark something nice and new in our brains. I hope you enjoy it 🫀

💩The Creative Process
A couple of weeks ago, I was doing a playshop with Dancing Fox, and I love this reminder about the ups-and-down that the creative process can have. I would also like to remind you (and myself) that this applies not only to artists, but it can appear in any creative process: even creating a keynote. Be kind to yourself 🫀
🤯Chatter Toolbox
Thank Gust, for sending this one. Ethan Kross is the author of Chatter - The Voice in Our Head, Why it Matters and How to Harness It. He says this is part of the human condition and that we all go through it.
Your inner voice is your ability to silently use language to reflect on your life. Chatter refers to the dark side of the inner voice. When we turn our attention inward to make sense of our problems, we don't end up finding solutions. We end up ruminating, worrying, catastrophizing. We get stuck in a negative cycle that takes this remarkable tool that we possess, this inner voice, and it turns it into a curse rather than a blessing.
You can find the toolbox on his website and read more, but here is the title of each, all quite helpful:
Use Distanced Self-Talk
Zoom Out
Rise to the Challenge
Write Expressively
Perform a Ritual
Build Your Chatter Board
Minimize Passive Social Media Usage
Create Order in Your Environment
Make Room for the Great Outdoors
Seek Out Awe-Inspiring Experiences
📆Parkinson’s Law
This is one of these concepts that, when you learn it, suddenly everything makes sense. “Parkinson’s Law is the adage that work will expand to fill the time allotted for its completion.” In this post from Atlassian, they give a few tips and strategies on how to overcome that. One of them is below:
Putting projects into the context of larger goals and creating timelines in days rather than weeks are two strategies to help overcome Parkinson’s Law.
🤐The Big Map of Forbidden Information
I know it’s not easy to see this one, but you can explore the whole infographic here. Some of the most famous conspiracies, cover-ups, mysteries, theories, secrets and lies. I love someone who took to time to do this. I did miss the story of Avril Lavigne’s Replacement, but it’s ok. There are probably a lot more missing.
👄The Art of Illusion
They say Drag is the Art of Illusion. This is one of these things that make me giggle every time I think of it. Penelopy Jean is a Brazilian artist-DJ-drag-queen-and-Lady-Gaga-impersonator. She’s so good at her job that she fooled the security at Lady Gaga’s concert. 🤣🤣

🤬The Big [Censored] Theory
Thank you, Michell, for this one. Pudding.cool always brings the coolest data visualizations. In this exploration, Manyun Zou analyzed the selective censorship of The Big Bang Theory in China, and sorted it by themes. Super interesting and somehow a dystopic feeling when I played the original vs. censored version as if I shouldn’t be watching it.
🎁A24’s Gift Shop
Thank you, Nina, for showing me this. A24’s gift/collectibles/merch/whatever you want to call it is just a dream. I already considered them somehow a lovebrand before that, because their movies are beautifully selected and made. But creating a store with such special/random things (that I don’t need any of them, but I want everything), is just next level. Where can I get all these sold-out zines?

🤖E-motions
Mura Masa’s new album demon time is a such bop. A few years I remember seeing a Vox video about how he makes internet beats, due to his ability to mix sounds from all over the world. His new album is just an even better version of what we heard back then. One of those albums you can just play and enjoy, plus the blasphemous feeling of bringing devil and christ in the same album.
🇧🇷Viola Davis
I’m obsessed with Viola Davis’ recent trip to Brazil. She went there to promote The Woman King movie and ended up doing this incredible shoot for Elle Brazil. There was something about seeing this iconic star there, discovering our culture and talents, and meeting other descendants of the African diaspora. So powerful!
See you again next week!

🔌Let’s Collab?
I truly believe innovation comes from bringing improbable areas together, and that’s why I called this project The Nexialist. Some sectors are known to be self-referencing and hermetic. Sometimes teams are on autopilot mode, focused on the daily grind, which hinders innovation. As a Nexialist, I like to burst these bubbles, bringing references from different areas, and maintaining teams inspired and connected to the Zeitgeist.
I offer inspiration sessions, called Brainsparks, creative desk research (Zeitgeist Boost), Plug’n’Play deals for workshops and sprints, and other Bespoke formats. If you want to know more about this, send me an e-mail with your challenge(s) and we can figure something out together. Check out my website and some work I’ve done below:
