welcome to another week of this not-so-random-but-made-with-love-newsletter, the nexialist
hello, folks! i hope this e-mail finds you well! as i write to you iām in my last vacation day, so expect this edition to be a bit more chill. read until the end for some great carnaval inspiration and music.
šļøthis week i spent some time in salvador and praia do forte in bahia with juan and had a beautiful time in nature. beautiful beaches, coconut water (and caipirinhas). we met marmosets, fishes, birds, cats/dogs, and even turtles from projeto tamar a known brazilian sea turtle conservation project. it was magical to watch the baby turtles running toward the sea.
i also was surprised by maria teresa who was selling beautiful vacation watches at the beach and as she showed us her beautiful work, she mentioned āthose are not rolex, just relax.ā i had to invest in one. it just reminded me how weāre all about stories.
oh well, enjoy it!

š«carnaval of the invisible
having just left salvador, i remembered this mini-doc released by amazon music last year. it talks about the importance of black african minds to the current state of carnaval, focusing in salvador. just the opening line below gives me chills. the whole thing has beautiful music, history, imagery AND english subtitles.
Let's exercise our imagination and think of the old city center of Salvador inhabited by peoples such as Mina, Fon, Ewe, Bantu, Fulani, Hausa. African people, from different ethnic groups, creating a Black African cosmopolitanism that's rarely seen in the world. People from several civilizations with diverse expertise, multiple technologies, interacting with each other in a small urban space. This Atlantic connection with not only maritime flows, but also flows of imagination, flows of ideas. Carnival is the jewel of this process. The process of recreating the imaginary. That's why the absence of Carnival is so difficult for a city that was created with Black mentalities.
šartificial carnivals
thank you, tassia, for sharing this profile with me. this project, carnavais artificiais by pedro garcia de moura and cartieĢ bressaĢo uses generative-AI to imagine carnavals āthat never were, but could have been.ā using different prompts and visual universes, they manage to tell different stories, often inspired by real photos. i want more of this!

this has been called the carnaval/summer song by some people in brazil (including me), and it is one of those earworms that wonāt leave your mind. lovezinho is the brazilianized diminutive of love, or little love. the chorus samples nelly furtadoās say it right and talks about smoking weed, and some dirty love making. i love me some unpretentious pop.
ševerything to love you
marina sena aka the brazilian bombshell that we love has just released such a sexy summer song, and weāre here for it. i love the video, the choreo and the flirty vibes. press play, and if you want more marina sena, listen to her playlist and her previous band, rosa neon.
š§heaven
this is one of those partnerships that i loved even before listening to it. not much to say, just listen :P
š“š»letās get it done
i cannot wait for her new album. iāve said it before, yaeji is one of the coolest artists at the moment, and i melt seeing her bringing her family to her videos. here, her grandpa and herself are dressed as bunnies and āshe reflects on the patterns and traumas inherited from ancestors.ā trauma but make it cute.

šbeautiful things
mctha has made a few appearances here, so iām happy sheās released something new. here, she sings about carnaval love, in which one might just let it all go not knowing where it is going. her lyrics are always like a hug.

šLetās Collab?
I truly believe innovation comes from bringing improbable areas together, and thatās why I called this project The Nexialist. Some sectors are known to be self-referencing and hermetic. Sometimes teams are on autopilot mode, focused on the daily grind, which hinders innovation. As a Nexialist, I like to burst these bubbles, bringing references from different areas, and maintaining teams inspired and connected to the Zeitgeist.Ā
I offer inspiration sessions called Brainsparks, creative desk research (Zeitgeist Boost), PlugānāPlay deals for workshops and sprints, and other bespoke formats. If you want to know more about this, send meĀ an e-mailĀ with your challenge(s) and we can figure something out together. Check out my website and some work Iāve done below:
