welcome to another week of cybercatching links, or The Nexialist
hello, folks! i hope this e-mail finds you well turned on by life (not sure why, but something told me to write this). i’m writing to you from the concrete jungle that is São Paulo while we celebrate the city’s 496th birthday, which got beautiful weather as a gift, with great company and a visit to the new park in the city center, parque augusta. it’s is great to be back and learn new things about the city. (this gif is me inside the ubers which are needed to get around the city). i hope you enjoy this week’s nexialist and get some brainsparks to turn you on even more 🫀✨

🤯some ai concepts
lately my algorithms have been feeding me with some beautiful visual concepts created with the support of AI and i have to share them with you. Elmo Mistiaen is making incredible fashion concepts using AI, and it is a feast for the eyes and imagination. i would love to see those pieces in real life.
i was fascinated with this idea of “what if RuPaul’s Drag Race happened in the 80s?” this AI came up with such rich images. it is also quite uncanny and creepy in most of them, which is part of the appeal for me. if you know of other projects like these, please share them with me.
👁️fong leng
last year there was an exhibit about Dutch fashion in De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam, Maison Amsterdam, and i was actually quite impressed. Of course there was a piece by the contemporary icon Iris van Herpen, but there were also other beautiful costumes. some of them were made by Dutch-Chinese designer Fong Leng, and so when I saw this post from Messy Nessy Chic I had to share it here. No AI, just imagination, technique and hard work.
Her work leaps away from convention, and instead is more akin to “fairytales told in fabric”. Her pieces are an exciting deviation from more traditional designers in the fashion world, and have names like Straalmantel (Radius Cloak), and Luipaardmantel (Leopard Cloak). She is known for creating long dresses, coats, and cloaks, with a variety of fabrics and techniques. Here a snake will glide down a skirt, and there piercing blue eyes will follow you from wrist to bust to ankles. She leaned into a variety of materials, like leather, suede, silk, feathers, and fur.

💊drugs from amsterdam
talking about dutch culture, i have to share this video that has been on my feed. i just love seeing Amsterdam in videos and films, and here it is no different. i love looking for spots of the city that i know of. the song is also quite nostalgic in a way as it reminded me of fedde le grand’s put your hands up for detroit (and other electronic beats from that time).
🪩nothing left to lose
thank you, juan, for sharing this. the lyrics and the song are so beautiful, which seems to fit perfectly with the choreo. it was choreographed by miranda chambers, who has also done some videos from Jungle, which i’m obsessed with.
🌞summer night
looking for more info about miranda chambers, this video from last year appeared and it made me want to move and smile the whole time. this is always a good kpi if i should share the content here.
🤳never niche enough
if you’re looking for a report about GenZ and how their behaviour is shaping digital trends, this is a good place to look. it is focused on the US, but still there are some great insights, thoughts and cases about GenZ, communities and niches. i know the talk about niche is around for a while. take a look at the report to get some cases, examples and explanations.
💯the future 100
the jwt future 100 report is one of those i love to read from beginning to end. there are always some great and inspiring cases. i must say that you might need to ignore some of the excessive metaverse trends (sorry, i’ve said it and i’ll say it again: i feel like they are pushing it down our throats). on the other hand, i was pleased to read some things that you’ve seen here in the nexialist before (hello situationships, indigenous innovation, digital identities and ritualistic apps), as well as some new ideas (hello temperate travels and psychobiotics). enjoy!
🫙bodega worker predictions
thank you, Dimas (Musica em Casa) for sending this a couple of weeks back. what best way to understand trends and predictions than from who is dealing directly with customers and their daily products. Anne interviews bodega workers to get a feeling of what is coming in 2023. i want to see more of this.
see you next week, brainsparkers 🫀

🔌Let’s Collab?
I truly believe innovation comes from bringing improbable areas together, and that’s why I called this project The Nexialist. Some sectors are known to be self-referencing and hermetic. Sometimes teams are on autopilot mode, focused on the daily grind, which hinders innovation. As a Nexialist, I like to burst these bubbles, bringing references from different areas, and maintaining teams inspired and connected to the Zeitgeist.
I offer inspiration sessions called Brainsparks, creative desk research (Zeitgeist Boost), Plug’n’Play deals for workshops and sprints, and other bespoke formats. If you want to know more about this, send me an e-mail with your challenge(s) and we can figure something out together. Check out my website and some work I’ve done below:
best way to wake up in the morning: read my name in the nexialist ❤️ im glad you liked it! ☀️
